Airspace Violation and Military Response

On Thursday (July 30), a violation of Polish airspace occurred when an unknown object, most likely a Kh-101 cruise missile, fell in the Lublin region. The Operational Command of the Armed Forces stated in a communication that the radar systems of the national air defense observed the activity of at least a dozen missiles operating over western Ukraine, which posed a potential threat due to their flight direction. Units directed an F-16 fighter jet to recognize and intercept the object. At 3:46 AM, the object disappeared from radar, and an Mi-24 helicopter localized its probable crash site near the village of Tarnawa-Kolonia.

Confirmation of Missile Impact

Prosecutor Marcin Kozak, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin, stated that authorities are dealing with a missile—not a drone or a Geran—most likely carrying the designation Kh-101 and containing a significant amount of explosives. Prime Minister Donald Tusk also conveyed that the projectile which fell in Tarnawa-Kolonia was probably Russian. The military had observed the flight of at least a dozen missiles that night, with one approaching the border to a distance of about 5 km at 3:29 AM before changing direction and flying east.

Crater and Resident Accounts

The crater formed by the fallen missile measures approximately 10 meters in diameter and 5 meters in depth, with debris scattered over an area of about 200 meters. Mr. Radosław, who provided the footage, told TVN24 that the impact was palpable, while another resident reported a crack and sparks in the sky. Mrs. Bożena told Polsat News that the roar was immense, prompting her to check outside as aircraft began flying and a helicopter appeared, noting there was neither an alarm nor an RCB alert on her phone.

Massive Attack on Ukraine

During the night from Wednesday to Thursday (July 30), Russia carried out a massive attack on Ukraine using 70 missile projectiles and over 280 drones. The occupiers attacked western and central Ukrainian regions, as well as the Kyiv region, with explosions occurring in Kyiv, near Kharkiv, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kryvyi Rih, and the Sumy region. The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the targets were facilities serving for the production, storage, and delivery of missiles, drone manufacturing, and the operation of the Ukrainian air space monitoring system.
