Storm Damage in Greater Poland
Supercell storms have swept across Greater Poland, accompanied by strong wind gusts that caused significant damage. The Polish Storm Chasers reported on Facebook that the greatest impacts occurred in parts of Krotoszyn and Pleszew counties, where strong winds tore off the roofs of residential and farm buildings, while hail reaching 2 to 3 cm in size was recorded near Kalisz.
Firefighters in Greater Poland confirmed these accounts, stating that by 5:30 PM they had received over 100 reports, with nearly 20 concerning torn or damaged roofs, primarily in Pleszew and Krotoszyn counties. Additional calls involved broken trees and downed power lines, with frequent interventions also in Kalisz, Ostr贸w, Krotoszyn, and Konin counties.
According to the TVP3 branch in Pozna艅, the wind destroyed two buildings in the village of B贸gwidze in Pleszew County, stripping the roof covering off a farm building and blowing out the windows of a multi-family building.
Storms Reaching Southern Poland
Storms have also affected the south of the country, with the Storm Observers Network publishing footage of the aftermath on platform X. The network reported that a storm system moving in from the Czech Republic is entering southern Poland with high electrical activity and potential wind gusts of 100 km/h or more.
Following Saturday’s storms, temperatures will drop briefly, but heat will return with doubled force starting Monday, with thermometers locally reaching up to 38 degrees Celsius, as written by Krzysztof Drozdowski on Wyborcza.pl.
Government Alerts and Warnings Issued
Government Centre for Security (RCB) alerts were sent out in the morning, and Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) warnings remain in effect. On Saturday, August 1, residents across numerous voivodeships鈥攊ncluding Lower Silesia, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, 艁贸d藕, Lublin, Lesser Poland, Mazovia, Opole, Podlaskie, Pomeranian, 艢wi臋tokrzyskie, Silesian, Warmian-Masurian, and Greater Poland鈥攔eceived RCB alerts warning of storms, strong winds, rain, hail, power outages, and advising avoidance of open spaces.
The IMGW also issued second-degree warnings for Saturday evening covering parts of Warmian-Masurian, Podlaskie, Mazovia, northern Lublin, most of 艁贸d藕, Silesian, 艢wi臋tokrzyskie, and parts of Lesser Poland voivodeships. Forecasts warned of storms with heavy rainfall from 25 mm to 40 mm locally up to 50 mm, wind gusts up to 95 km/h, and isolated gusts reaching around 110 km/h alongside local hail.

According to the IMGW, Central and Eastern Europe will be under the influence of weak highs, while lows with frontal systems dominate the rest of the continent. Most of the country will remain under a high-pressure system moving from northern Germany to northwestern Poland, while the south and southeast will be affected by a wavy cold front linked to a low over the Barents Sea. Polar maritime air will flow over almost all of Poland, with tropical air remaining only in the extreme southeast.
On Sunday, August 2, cloud cover will be moderate, increasing at times to heavy, with passing rain showers and storms in the Carpathians bringing up to 20 mm of precipitation. Maximum temperatures will range from 20 degrees Celsius by the sea, around 25 degrees Celsius in the center and west, up to 30 degrees Celsius in the southeast, with weak winds and gusts up to 60 km/h during storms.
Sunday night into Monday will see small to moderate cloud cover increasing to heavy in the south, with passing rain showers and storms in the Tatras, Bieszczady, and Sudetes, yielding up to 10 mm in the Carpathians. Minimum temperatures will range from 11 degrees Celsius in the north, around 16 degrees Celsius in the center and by the sea, up to 19 degrees Celsius in the southeast, with light easterly winds and gusts to 60 km/h during storms.
On Monday, August 3, cloud cover will be small and moderate, increasing periodically in the south and north, with passing rain showers and storms in the south bringing up to 15 mm of rain. Maximum temperatures will span from 20 degrees Celsius by the sea, around 28 degrees Celsius in the center, up to 34 degrees Celsius in the south, accompanied by light to moderate easterly winds and storm gusts reaching 60 km/h.
