Trump Halts Iran Attack After Three-Nation Plea as Tehran Denies Talks

Donald Trump announced he halted a massive military strike on Iran following requests from three allied nations and Tehran, though Iranian state media quickly denied asking the US to cancel the action.

Trump Announces Halted Attack

Donald Trump stated in a Sunday Truth Social post that the US was ready to attack Iran with military potential not seen since World War II. During a press conference aboard Air Force One, he said everything was ready for a powerful attack, but allies and Iran asked to hold off, prompting the decision to pause.

Three Nations Intervene

The American president specified that Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar appealed to halt the attack for a chance at an agreement, noting Iran also asked to make a deal. However, PAP reported that Iranian state media denied Tehran asked the US to call off the attack.

Conditions for an Agreement

Trump assured that Israel would not attack Iran either, provided an agreement is reached. According to the American president, this would include the immediate unblocking of the Strait of Hormuz and the elimination of Iran’s nuclear program.

Upcoming US-Iran Negotiations

When asked what happens next, Trump stated that the US will conduct negotiations with Iran starting Monday afternoon to see if Tehran genuinely wants a deal, emphasizing his desire to save lives.

A journalist asked if Iran had a deadline for reaching an agreement, to which Trump replied they would see, reiterating that the US wants a deal and does not want to see people dying.

Saudi Arabia’s Role and Risks

According to Axios, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman urged Trump to ease Middle East tensions due to the risk of Iranian retaliation targeting oil infrastructure in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. Trump confirmed these reports aboard Air Force One, stating it was unknown where those attacks would lead and that many bad things could happen.

Trump reported that negotiations with Tehran will begin Monday afternoon following his decision to halt planned new strikes, starting with the Strait of Hormuz before moving to denuclearization.

Tehran’s Counter-Stance

The Iranian side presented a completely different picture, as Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi denied any direct talks are currently underway with Washington. He mentioned negotiations with Oman regarding the management of the Strait of Hormuz are in their final phase.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei explained the discussions involve creating a new shipping route through the strait acceptable to both sides, unrelated to its opening or closing, while blaming the US for breaking previous commitments and imposing a maritime blockade.
