Cardinal Dziwisz Testifies in Krak贸w Court
The Regional Court in Krak贸w held a hearing for Cardinal Stanis艂aw Dziwisz, who testified as a witness in the ongoing trial regarding 20 million PLN in compensation from the Krak贸w Archdiocese. The hierarch stated that he has no knowledge of the case because he was serving as the personal secretary to John Paul II in the Vatican at the time.
Lawsuit Against the Archdiocese and Parish
The trial for 20 million PLN in compensation from the Krak贸w Archdiocese and the parish in Mi臋dzybrodzie Bialskie has been ongoing before the Regional Court in Krak贸w since mid-June. It was brought by Janusz Szymik, who was sexually abused as a child between 1984 and 1989 by the then-parish priest, Rev. Jan W.
Questions Regarding Signals and Father Isakowicz-Zaleski
Cardinal Stanis艂aw Dziwisz is one of the witnesses in the trial. According to the plaintiff’s attorneys, he may have known about the actions of Rev. Jan W. because he received signals and requests for intervention regarding the matter from Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski.
Testimony of the Former Metropolitan of Krak贸w
During the nearly hour-long testimony, the retired metropolitan of Krak贸w was asked by the plaintiff’s attorney whether he knew Rev. Jan W. Cardinal Dziwisz stated that he recognized him because he knew all the priests in the Krak贸w Archdiocese, but he had no personal or social contact with them.
Service in the Vatican and Other Responsibilities
He also testified that he has no knowledge of the circumstances under which Rev. Jan W. became the secretary of the then-metropolitan of Krak贸w, Cardinal Franciszek Macharski, because he was in Rome at the time. The hierarch stated that as the pope’s secretary in the Vatican for 27 years, he did not get involved in and had no way of knowing what was happening in the diocese due to his other duties.
