Kaczyński Strikes Back at Morawiecki: He is in a Strange State

PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński launched a sharp attack against Mateusz Morawiecki on Tuesday, accusing the former prime minister of shifting his hostility toward his own party and acting in a strange state.

Accusations from the PiS Leader

“Mateusz Morawiecki’s recent statements clearly show: the enemy for Mateusz Morawiecki is not Tusk, but myself and Law and Justice. Apparently, Mateusz Morawiecki has a plan to seek his allies elsewhere,” PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński wrote on X on Tuesday.

“The former prime minister is shifting the responsibility for the decisions made onto others, often untruthfully… Since he disagreed with them so much, it is worth asking: why didn’t he dissociate himself from these decisions publicly or even resign from the function of prime minister?” the politician added.

Jarosław Kaczyński noted that “from time to time he hears that members of the breakaway association were assured by Mateusz Morawiecki that the list (in next year’s parliamentary elections – ed.) will be common anyway.” “After such statements by their boss, it is extremely difficult to believe this,” he added.

“I have the impression that the prime minister is in some strange state. I also had these impressions during our conversations. God grant that I am wrong,” concluded the leader of Law and Justice.

Reactions and YouTube Interview

Jarosław Kaczyński’s post was reacted to by Marcin Horała, until recently in PiS, currently in the Rozwój Plus club of Mateusz Morawiecki. “Rafał log in again, wrong account,” Horała wrote.

This is a reference to PiS spokesman Rafał Bochenek, who in recent weeks commented on the latest events in the party in conversations with journalists.

Mateusz Morawiecki: It may turn out that we are the last rescue of PiS

Jarosław Kaczyński’s post is most likely a reference, among other things, to the interview that Mateusz Morawiecki gave on Monday on the “Rymanowski Live” channel on YouTube. The former prime minister of the PiS government assessed that “from the very beginning, the leadership (PiS – ed.) aimed to push out” members of his Rozwój Plus association.

In the context of the internal situation in PiS, Morawiecki stated that the group of so-called “maślarze” (a group of PiS politicians associated with Tobiasz Bocheński, Jacek Sasin, and Patryk Jaki) aims to take over influence in the party. – In many places, the president emphasized that in the event of lost elections, he would step down immediately. Therefore, this group, as they say “maślarze”, decided to actually take over the party. This is a rigged strategy to push out the president, because in the end they will come for his head; now they pushed me out – assessed Mateusz Morawiecki.

– If the fight of Law and Justice concentrates on us, then I think that in this fratricidal fight, PiS will certainly also lose – the politician stipulated. – I think that in the end it may turn out that we are the last rescue of PiS, although we will fight for an even better result. Today there is no hegemon on the right, except of course President Karol Nawrocki – added the former prime minister.

Past Decisions and Controversies

Morawiecki criticized, among other things, the declaration of 10 PiS postulates regarding economic, foreign, and social policy presented in July last year by PiS leader Jarosław Kaczyński. PiS then counted on the declaration being signed by Confederation.

The former prime minister assessed that the catalyst for the decline in PiS support since 2020 was the idea of the “Five for Animals,” a draft bill that provided for, among other things, a ban on fur farming or a ban on keeping dogs on chains. The ultimate “poll slump,” as he said, was the 2020 Constitutional Tribunal ruling, which found abortion due to severe and irreversible fetal damage inconsistent with the Constitution. Morawiecki noted that he appealed at the time to “stick to the abortion compromise.”

Conflict and the Rozwój Plus Club

The establishment of the Rozwój Plus association is linked to the crisis inside Law and Justice. At the end of July, the deadline expired for the ultimatum of leader Jarosław Kaczyński, who ordered PiS parliamentarians to resign from membership in external political associations under threat of expulsion from the party.

Politicians gathered around Mateusz Morawiecki did not submit the required declarations, considering that they did not resign from membership in PiS, but were merely implementing a new social initiative. Ultimately, after referring the matter to the disciplinary spokesman, these politicians recognized that they were no longer members of PiS and at the end of July registered their own parliamentary club. The Rozwój Plus club currently has 40 MPs. The politicians also intend to establish a party.
