11-Year-Old Scooter Rider Dies After Collision With Combine Harvester in Łódź Voivodeship

An 11-year-old boy riding an electric scooter died Monday after colliding with a combine harvester on a narrow road in Sypień, Łowicz County.

Fatal Collision in Sypień

The accident occurred on Monday, August 3, at approximately 12:20 PM in the village of Sypień within Łowicz County in the Łódź Voivodeship. An 11-year-old boy riding an electric scooter collided with a agricultural combine harvester driven by a 48-year-old man.

Emergency Response and Failed Resuscitation

Emergency services were immediately dispatched to the scene, including several local fire department units and a Medical Air Rescue helicopter. Despite resuscitation efforts carried out at the scene, the child’s life could not be saved.

Prosecutor’s Office Assessment on Road Regulations

Paweł Jasiak, spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź, stated that an inspection was conducted on the same day with the participation of a traffic accident expert. The expert concluded that the combine harvester should not have been traveling on the narrow road where the accident took place at all. Additionally, the tragedy may have been contributed to by the fact that the vehicle had improperly unfolded equipment.

Combine Harvester Driver Faces Charges

The 48-year-old man was detained and is scheduled to face charges at the prosecutor’s office for the unintentional causing of a fatal accident, which carries a penalty of up to 8 years of imprisonment.
