Presidential Palace Responds to PiS Rift as Nawrocki Stays Out of Internal Disputes

Speaking on Polsat News on Wednesday, August 5, presidential spokesperson Rafał Leśkiewicz stated that President Karol Nawrocki remains neutral regarding the recent split within PiS.

Presidential Neutrality and Alliances

The presidential spokesperson addressed the division within PiS, the party that supported Karol Nawrocki in the elections, following Mateusz Morawiecki’s creation of a new parliamentary club named Rozwój Plus over a dispute surrounding the association of the same name. Rafał Leśkiewicz conveyed that the president does not enter into intra-party disputes, but instead seeks allies for important matters.

Engaging with All Conservative Circles

Nawrocki will hold discussions with both Morawiecki and PiS, signaling that he intends to talk with all conservative circles wanting to bring change and propose good solutions for Poland while looking for allies and putting forward his own legal solutions. Leśkiewicz noted that Nawrocki will talk to both factions because representatives of both environments sit on the president’s councils, selected based on competence and experience rather than factional affiliation.

Openness to Serious Talks

Asked whether the Presidential Palace would engage in the Senate pact or potential coalition talks, the spokesperson replied that it is not about that, but rather that the Presidential Palace is open to any serious conversation regarding proposed legal solutions and changes.

PiS Disciplinary Measures Over Associations

The PiS Political Committee Presidium prohibited members from participating in political organizations, specifically the associations Rozwój Plus and Po pierwsze Polska, requiring politicians to submit declarations that they do not belong to them under threat of losing PiS membership by July 23. Rafał Bochenek reported on Tuesday, July 28, that the committee approved a list of 44 individuals who failed to submit the declaration or did so incorrectly, directing the matter to the PiS disciplinary spokesperson.

Disciplinary Procedure and Appeals

Under the statute, if the disciplinary spokesperson submits a motion to punish the politicians to the Peer Disciplinary Court, the body can impose a penalty, acquit, or discontinue the proceedings, with disciplined politicians receiving seven days from notification to appeal the decision.
