Crash in Greater Poland: Mother Flees the Scene, Leaving 7-Year-Old Son Behind

A 40-year-old woman crashed into a tree in Greater Poland on Tuesday, subsequently fleeing the scene and abandoning her injured seven-year-old son, who was later hospitalized.

Crash Between Bucz and Sokołowice

The incident occurred on Tuesday, August 4, at around 8:00 AM on a dirt road between Bucz and Sokołowice in Wolsztyn County, Greater Poland Voivodeship. A 40-year-old woman lost control of her vehicle and struck a roadside tree, with her seven-year-old son traveling in the car with her.

Child Transported to Hospital

The woman called her family for help. According to the Wolsztyn County Police Headquarters, when one of the family members arrived at the scene, she walked away, leaving behind her seven-year-old son. When police officers arrived following a report to the duty officer, the boy reported stomach pain, prompting officers to provide first aid and call an ambulance. Paramedics preliminarily determined the child had not sustained serious injuries, though he was taken to the hospital for necessary examinations.

Police Locate the 40-Year-Old Mother

Officers secured the scene and the vehicle before beginning a search for the 40-year-old. Dozens of minutes later, officers from Przemęt spotted her approximately two kilometers from the incident site, between a forest and the road leading toward Sokołowice.

Intoxication and Lack of License

A breathalyzer test administered by police showed the woman had 0.33 mg/l of alcohol in her exhaled breath, equivalent to 0.69 per mille of alcohol in her system. Entering her details into the system revealed that the detained woman did not possess a driver’s license.

The woman sustained injuries during the crash that required medical attention, which was provided by doctors at the hospital in Kościan. Blood samples were also drawn for alcohol testing.

Preliminary Investigation Underway

The Wolsztyn County Police Headquarters stated that a preliminary investigation has been initiated in the case, and its outcome could result in up to three years of imprisonment for the woman.
