Polish students achieved spectacular success at the 3rd International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Kazakhstan, winning a total of eight medals – four gold and four silver. The Polish representation took third place in the informal country classification, losing only to Russia and China and outperforming over one hundred delegations from around the world.

Details of the Olympiad and Medalists

The 3rd International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from August 2 to 8. It was attended by over 400 competitors from 103 countries and territories.

As reported by Michał Marcinkowski – Chairman of the Board of the Artificial Intelligence Education and Development Foundation and member of the AI Olympiad Main Committee – the Polish team won eight medals: four gold (Tomasz Kuczko, Michał Masny, Krzysztof Rojek, and Mikołaj Źrałek) and four silver (Maksym Kaminskyi, Michał Karp, Marcel Kosmala, and Jakub Ptaszkiewicz).

The honored individuals are high school and technical school students from Kraków, Kielce, Szczecin, Toruń, Warszawa, and Wrocław.

Marcinkowski also conveyed that according to the informal country classification, Poland took third place in the world – after Russia and China.

The competition program – as read – included two rounds of individual competition and team events, with participants tackling problems in the fields of artificial intelligence and machine learning. The supervisors of the Polish representation were Witold Drzewakowski, Grzegorz Gruza, Wiktor Ogrodnik, and Marcin Podhajski.

Domestic Preliminaries and Prior Successes

National eliminations and a streak of prior successes by Poles.

The representation for the international competition was selected by the Polish Artificial Intelligence Olympiad organized in April 2026. Its organizers pointed out the earlier successes of Poles. As they stated, in 2025 during the International Artificial Intelligence Olympiad in Beijing, they won seven medals in individual competitions as well as first and third places in team competitions. A year earlier – at the team olympiad in Burgas – Polish teams won second and 13th place, and at the individual olympiad in Riyadh, Poles secured gold and three silver medals.
