Over 300 Dogs Rescued from Illegal Breeding Operation in Poland

Polish police have raided an illegal breeding facility in Kielce, rescuing more than 300 neglected dogs and arresting a 35-year-old owner facing animal cruelty charges.

Municipal Police Tip Leads to Raid

The case came to light following information provided to officers by the Kielce Municipal Guard. According to the guards’ accounts, the animals were neglected and kept in poor conditions, and the breeding operation itself was conducted in violation of regulations governing such activities.

Over 300 Dogs Found on Properties

“During operations carried out on the grounds of two properties, they discovered over 300 dogs of various breeds that were in improper living conditions. The animals were not provided with adequate care, and their condition indicated the need for urgent veterinary help,” reads a press release published by the Kielce police.

Animals Secured and Placed in Care

Representatives of the Kielce City Hall, the veterinary inspectorate, dog shelter workers, and the Judyta Foundation—which deals with animal protection—appeared at the scene. The animals were secured and handed over to the care of the foundation. They were provided with assistance and veterinary care. Their condition is—as the police maintain—constantly monitored. Efforts are underway to provide them with appropriate living conditions.

Mayor of Kielce Appeals for Material Support

The Mayor of Kielce, Agata Wojda, spoke out on the matter. “About 180 dogs have already been removed from the pseudo-breeding facility and placed under the care of the Homeless Animal Shelter in Kielce and the Judyta Foundation. Huge thanks for their professionalism and commitment,” Wojda wrote on Facebook.

“Every animal is currently undergoing veterinary examinations. Some of the dogs are staying in clinics, where they are receiving necessary treatment. Among the rescued are also many bitches with puppies, which require special care,” she explained.

“This is a huge organizational and financial challenge. The shelter will be equipped with additional cages, but your support is already needed now. You can find a detailed list of needs on the shelter’s profile. For now, we are asking primarily for material support. It is not excluded, however, that in the near future there will also be a need to find temporary homes for some of the dogs. We will keep you updated on an ongoing basis,” the Mayor of Kielce continues.

Authorities Detain 35-Year-Old Suspect

The detained 35-year-old was simultaneously the owner of the property where the illegal breeding was operated. The man has been charged with animal cruelty and running a breeding operation in violation of applicable regulations.

“After reviewing the material gathered by investigators, the court decided to apply temporary arrest to the suspect for a period of two months,” reads the police statement.

Animal cruelty with particular cruelty is punishable by up to 5 years of imprisonment.
