Devastating Missile Strike on Zaporizhzhia
“We heard about 10 explosions. I think they were ballistic missiles. Among them was one powerful explosion that shook the entire building like an earthquake,” reported a journalist from “The Kyiv Independent” from Zaporizhzhia. The first explosions were heard at around 0:30 local time (23:30 Polish time).
According to official regional reports, the Russian shelling damaged private homes and energy infrastructure. The attack resulted in 6 deaths and 19 injuries, with the regional air raid alert lifted around 6:00 local time (5:00 Polish time).
Nighttime Attack on Kyiv
Russian forces also attacked the Ukrainian capital overnight. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned residents that the city was under attack and urged them to seek shelter.
Medics were dispatched to the Shevchenkivskyi district, later confirming that a warehouse building was damaged by ballistic missiles and one person was injured.
Zelenskyy on Rising Anti-War Sentiment in Russia
The number of people in Russia who want an end to the war is growing, and there will be more long-range Ukrainian strikes to show Russians that they need peace, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on Monday, August 10.
Zelenskyy added that new public opinion polls in Russia indicate a rise in the population desiring a conclusion to the conflict.
Long-Range Strike on Siberia
The Ukrainian president also announced on Monday that Ukrainian forces attacked a Russian oil refining facility located a significant distance—over 2,500 kilometers—away from Ukraine, in Tobolsk, Siberia.
Media reports indicate the target was the Zapsibneftekhim petrochemical plant, the largest petrochemical complex in the Russian Federation.
“Now this region is also within the reach of our long-range strikes. This is a very significant achievement of our Ukrainian soldiers,” Zelenskyy said in an evening video address, thanking everyone for their precision and emphasizing that Putin and his administration must understand there is no alternative to peace.
