Poland to seek additional funds from SAFE mechanism, says Deputy Minister Zalewski

Speaking on Polish Radio 24, Paweł Zalewski announced that Poland will apply for additional funds from the SAFE mechanism following further negotiations with the European Commission.

Negotiations with the European Commission

Zalewski said on Polish Radio 24 that Poland will be able to apply for additional funds from the SAFE mechanism. When pressed on the principles under which Poland wants to use these funds, he stated that “first of all, there will be extra time in negotiations with the European Commission.”

He added that Poland will present its projects to be included in the mechanism, noting that talks with the European Commission and decisions by the Polish government will be truly key.

Allocation of SAFE Support

The EU’s SAFE program provides 150 billion euros in support, including low-interest loans primarily for the purchase of military equipment, especially that produced in Europe. The European Commission has allocated a total of 43.7 billion euros to Poland to finance defense projects outlined in the Polish investment plan.

The money is earmarked for the implementation of the Shield-East program, the development of anti-drone systems, air defense, artillery, and the modernization of military transport infrastructure. According to government declarations, 89 percent of the funds will go to the Polish industry and economy.

Air Show in Radom and Permanent US Base

During the interview on Polish Radio 24, Zalewski also addressed the Ministry of National Defense decision not to organize the Air Show in Radom next year. He noted that although such events are important for popularizing aviation in Poland, this is the decision of the Operational Command, stating that safety comes first.

Zalewski further stated that the Polish government intends to present a specific proposal to the American side in September, taking into account all details for establishing a permanent US military base in Poland.
