Apache Helicopter Service Center Contract Signed in Łódź Amid High-Level Polish and US Remarks

Following the signing of a key offset contract for the Polish Armed Forces, a major Apache helicopter service center will be established in Łódź, praised by officials as a milestone in defense cooperation.

Offset Agreements and the Łódź Service Center

Offsets linked to the purchase of AH-64E Apache helicopters for the Polish Armed Forces will enable the establishment of an authorized Apache service center in Łódź.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk described the 2024 Apache contract as a crucial, breakthrough agreement, marking the largest in Poland’s history at approximately 10 billion dollars.

Tusk emphasized that WZL-1 will host Europe’s largest service center for these helicopters, forming the world’s second-largest fleet of 96 ordered aircraft outside the United States.

Defense Cooperation and Economic Impact

Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka dismissed claims that Poland would halt defense cooperation with the US, highlighting that the massive Apache contract surpasses the entire SAFE mechanism in value.

Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk remarked on the generational shift in military equipment, comparing legacy Mi-24 helicopters to the modern Apache fleet and noting Poland’s transition from a customer to a partner.

US Ambassador Thomas Rose stated that the partnership grows alongside mutual strength, praising the collaborative effort behind the agreement and stressing the importance of readiness and high-skilled maintenance in Poland.
