Two Payments Instead of One
Thousands of Polish retirees can legally draw two retirement benefits simultaneously if they spent part of their career abroad. For work in our western neighbor, just 5 years of legal employment is enough to gain an extra cash boost of nearly 1,000 PLN per month.
Polish regulations are very favorable for seniors in this regard, meaning work outside the country does not result in the loss of contributions made there. Crucially, to apply for foreign funds, you do not need to leave Poland or visit foreign offices, as all formalities can be handled at the nearest ZUS branch.
Over 900 PLN for 5 Years of Work
Germany remains the most popular earning destination for Poles, and its pension system offers very attractive conditions for individuals who worked there even for a relatively short time.
Many seniors mistakenly believe that periods of work in different countries merge into a single European pension. The reality is quite different and significantly more profitable.
The Retirement Age Trap
Although the right to the money is acquired quickly, the moment of disbursement may surprise many seniors due to differences in retirement ages between Poland and other countries.
A Polish woman who reaches the age of 60 will immediately receive her benefit from ZUS, but she will have to wait another 7 years for her second, German pension until she reaches the age required by German law. Both benefits will start arriving simultaneously only after meeting the criteria of both states.
ZUS Assistance for Minimum Pension
Foreign work experience has another giant advantage, as it can help individuals who lack years of work in Poland to receive the guaranteed minimum pension. Thanks to European regulations, insurance periods from various EU and EFTA countries can be added together.
How to Apply Without Leaving Home
To apply for a foreign benefit, you do not need to travel abroad, because the entire procedure is coordinated by the Polish ZUS acting as an intermediary.
Remember to attach all available documents confirming foreign employment, such as foreign insurance numbers, contracts, or pay slips, to the application, which will significantly speed up the money-granting process.
