Morning Fire on Szucha Avenue
On Wednesday, August 12, in the morning, a fire broke out in an apartment located in a building at 27 Szucha Avenue in Warsaw. The fire engulfed the ground-floor unit, and the majority of the apartment was burned. Around 20 people evacuated the building on their own, and medical assistance was also provided to residents exposed to fire gases. According to preliminary findings, the apartment may have been set on fire by its occupant.
The report about the fire was received by the municipal command center of the State Fire Service in Warsaw at 8:27 AM. Three fire brigades were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighting Operations and Evacuation
Upon the arrival of emergency services, it turned out that the ground-floor apartment of the building was on fire. Firefighters commenced firefighting operations and deployed water jets. The fire was contained and extinguished, but most of the apartment’s furnishings and surface area were destroyed by the blaze.
During the fire, approximately 20 people left the stairwell where the burning apartment was located on their own. Special attention was required for individuals staying in flats directly above the unit engulfed in flames, as they were exposed to smoke and fire gases.
Medical Assistance and Government Complex Proximity
Medical rescuers provided assistance to those affected. According to information obtained, two or three people required help, but none of them were transported to the hospital.
Building number 27, despite its formal address on Szucha Avenue, runs along Armii Ludowej Avenue and is part of a building complex that also includes numbers 23 and 25. This part of the complex houses, among others, the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Investigation into Suspected Arson
The fire did not affect any of the government institutions. The flames appeared exclusively in the residential part of the complex.
Preliminary findings indicate that the apartment may have been set on fire by its resident. The man was found by police officers near the building and was subsequently taken to a psychiatric hospital.
Police officers are conducting further activities related to the incident. The exact circumstances of the fire’s origin and the sequence of events preceding the appearance of the flames will be clarified.
