Streamlining Train Travel Through Digital Integration
The new feature in mObywatel is designed to simplify train travel by allowing passengers to confirm their identity in advance, and their discount rights in the case of discounted tickets. As a result, they will not need to reach for additional documents during inspections. With over two million ticket inspections monthly, this means fewer documents and faster checks for passengers.
Passengers buying train tickets through the KOLEO app can use the new solution based on integration with mObywatel. Koleje Dolnośląskie is the first Polish carrier to implement this type of integration. It enables passengers to confirm their identity during ticket purchase, and students to additionally verify their discount eligibility.
Identity and Discount Verification Tied Directly to the Ticket
During the ticket purchase, passengers can confirm their identity through the mObywatel service, and students can further verify their discount entitlement. Once verification is complete, the information is linked to the ticket. Consequently, during inspections, the conductor checks the verified ticket without requiring the passenger to reopen the mObywatel app, show a student ID, or present any other entitlement document.
Offline Functionality for Low-Signal Travel
The solution is also designed to work offline. This means passengers do not need a constant internet connection at the time of inspection, which is especially important when traveling through areas with weaker cellular network coverage.
Initial Availability Limited to Specific Tickets
Following verification, the inspection relies entirely on the ticket purchased via KOLEO. For now, the solution applies only to Koleje Dolnośląskie tickets bought through this platform, meaning it is not yet available across all railway carriers.
Benefits for Both Passengers and Conductors
The new solution aims to improve ticket inspections for both parties. Passengers who have pre-verified their identity or discount entitlements do not need to pull out extra documents during checks, as all necessary information is linked to the verified ticket.
Conductors also benefit by saving time previously spent waiting for passengers to locate documents, open relevant apps, or show discount cards. This makes inspections run more smoothly, which is critical given the high volume of passengers and online ticket sales.
According to data provided by the carrier, its staff performs over two million ticket inspections monthly. With more than 60 percent of tickets sold online, this translates to over 1.2 million document checks associated with such tickets every month.
