Pu艂awska Track Renovation Scope
The renovation plan for the capital’s tracks has passed its halfway mark, and Tramwaje Warszawskie crews will soon begin the final major task: renovating the tram track on Pu艂awska Street, from the Metro Wilanowska loop to the Wy艣cigi loop. Work will start on Saturday, August 15, and last until the end of November, with trams returning to part of the route at the turn of September and October.
This year, the Warsaw Track Program includes 36 tasks and nearly 12 km of tracks. Between late July and early August, trams returned to Gr贸jecka Street, Aleje Jerozolimskie, and the renovated section of track in Aleja Solidarno艣ci and the Kino Femina node. Work on Winnica and the second half of the Kino Femina node is scheduled to last until the end of the holidays, while trams will return to Poniatowski Bridge at the beginning of the new school year and to Aleja Niepodleg艂o艣ci in mid-September.
The final major track renovation will kick off in mid-August on the final section of Pu艂awska Street up to the Wy艣cigi loop, with remaining planned tasks involving mainly weekend or few-day changes in tram operations.
Track Condition and Technical Details
The last major track renovation on this section was carried out in 2000, resulting in numerous mud pumping spots and track structure damages caused by water, which prompted speed restrictions. Currently, there are six speed limits of 10, 20, and 30 km/h along a total length of 420 meters on this section.
The works will cover a total of 3,380 meters of track between the Metro Wilanowska and Wy艣cigi loops, preserving the ballast structure on most of the route and building new drainage to solve the mud pumping problem.
Tram stops will be renovated, the Wy艣cigi loop will be equipped with lighting, and four track crossings will be repaired at Aleja Wilanowska, Pu艂awska (slanted crossing), Aleja Lotnik贸w, and Smyczkowa using large-format prefabricated slabs to shorten closure times.
Changes for Drivers on Pu艂awska
On Saturday, August 15, shortly after midnight, tram workers will narrow the lane of Pu艂awska towards Ursyn贸w by one lane from Aleja Wilanowska to the Rzymowskiego junction.
Closed Aleja Lotnik贸w Crossing
In subsequent stages, tram workers will renovate track crossings, starting with the closure of the Aleja Lotnik贸w crossing for one week from August 15 to 23.
Next Stages of Construction
After finishing work at Aleja Lotnik贸w, the work will move to the intersection of Pu艂awska with Aleja Wilanowska and Aleja Niepodleg艂o艣ci, closing both track crossings at Aleja Wilanowska. Afterward, workers will renovate tracks crossing the Pu艂awska roadway toward Ursyn贸w, finishing with work at Strumykowa, with all construction lasting until late November.
Changes for Trams and Buses from August 15
Starting August 15, trams will not run from the Metro Wilanowska loop to the Wy艣cigi loop, with lines 4 and 10 operating up to the loop at the Wilanowska metro station.
Bus lines 189, 193, 317, 401, 402, N01, and N33 will run on detours.
Partial Return of Trams in October
Track work is phased, and at the turn of September and October, trams will return to the Aleja Lotnik贸w stop, where a temporary crossover switch will be installed to allow bidirectional trams on lines 4 and 10 to turn around. Until the end of the renovation in late November, the tram route will be shorter by only one stop at Wy艣cigi.
