The Death of Jowita Zielińska: Investigators Administer Polygraph Tests to Neighbors

Following the discovery of 31-year-old Jowita Zielińska’s remains in Lisiny, investigators have subjected local neighbors to lie detector tests as the investigation into her mysterious death continues.

Disappearance and Discovery of Remains

Jowita Zielińska went missing on July 6, 2024. The 31-year-old left her home in the village of Lisiny (Rypin County, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) and never returned. Her remains were found by passersby on July 18, though the circumstances of her death remain unknown.

Investigators Interview and Test Neighbors

On Tuesday, August 11, officers took local residents for questioning. “Police took three neighbors at a time into a car and drove them to Bydgoszcz to test them on a lie detector. After a few hours, they returned and took the next ones,” a resident of Lisiny told a “Fakt” reporter. Earlier, some members of Mrs. Jowita’s husband’s family underwent polygraph testing.

Awaiting Expert Opinions and DNA Results

Prosecutor Jacek Lasiński from the District Prosecutor’s Office in Rypin confirmed to “Fakt” that investigators questioned the neighbors. “We are now waiting for expert opinions. We are also waiting for further DNA test results,” the prosecutor said. It is known that authorities are “conducting parallel actions,” but the prosecutor could not discuss them for the good of the ongoing investigation.

Remains Found Near the Home

The woman lived with the parents of her deceased husband, as we wrote in Gazeta.pl. Based on CCTV footage, investigators established that while returning home, the 31-year-old entered a nearby forest. On August 10, 2024, police found Jowita Zielińska’s bicycle in the forest near the village of Wierzchowiska.

Discovery by Mushroom Pickers

On July 18 of this year, mushroom pickers found the woman’s remains in a forest in Lisiny, a few hundred meters from her place of residence. “The police arrived and started digging to make sure they were human remains. They dug it up, saw a bra and we didn’t see anything else,” recounted Mr. Krzysztof in TVN’s “Uwaga,” who found the remains along with his brother. The men claimed they had been mushroom picking in the same place for years, but had not noticed anything disturbing before.

Personal Items and DNA Confirmation

“Uwaga” journalists unofficially established that a necklace, a medallion with the letter of the woman’s husband’s name, and a ring were found near Mrs. Jowita’s remains, which already suggested at the time that the bones might belong to her. After several weeks, preliminary DNA test results dispelled any doubts.
