Ministry Issues Odyseusz Alert
In response to the situation in Croatia, the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning via the Odyseusz system. The update noted that efforts were underway to extinguish a dangerous fire in Lokva Rogoznica near Omiš, with flames spreading toward Marušići and Mimice. Local services evacuated residents and tourists, directing them to the Ribnjak sports hall in Omiš.
Police closed the Adriatic Highway (DC8) to traffic from Stanići toward Split and from Medići toward Makarska. The Ministry urged travelers to strictly follow the recommendations of local authorities.
Condition of Injured Polish Citizens
Four Polish citizens sustained injuries in the Croatian fires, with one person hospitalized in intensive care while the others have already left the hospital, Ministry spokesperson Maciej Wewiór reported on Friday.
Wewiór added that the Polish consul is providing support to the victims, including assistance in obtaining documentation for insurers of destroyed cars and organizing their return to Poland. The Ministry urged travelers to monitor updates and register in the Odyseusz system.
One of the Largest Fires in Croatian History
The fire broke out on Thursday evening near the tourist town of Omiš. Local firefighting representatives stated it ranks among the largest fires in Croatian history, according to portal.hr. Dozens of people were injured, with at least seven sustaining life-threatening injuries. On Friday around 1:30 PM, police discovered a body in the fire-affected area, though officials have not yet established the identity of the deceased or the circumstances of death.
Record Heatwave and Surge in Wildfires
Croatia is currently grappling with a heatwave exceeding 40 degrees Celsius. Record temperatures were recorded in recent days across several Adriatic cities, including Split, located about 30 kilometers from Lokva Rogoznica. According to the Croatian Firefighting Union, approximately 3,900 forest fires have been recorded since the beginning of the year, destroying nearly 10,000 hectares, marking a 75 percent increase compared to the same period in 2025.
