President Donald Trump has declared a preliminary peace deal with Iran, featuring the immediate lifting of the Hormuz Strait blockade, with a formal signing ceremony scheduled for June 19 in Switzerland.

The Agreement and the Hormuz Strait

President Trump announced the deal on Truth Social, declaring the agreement with the Islamic Republic of Iran finalized and authorizing the immediate opening of the Strait of Hormuz. While Trump framed the move as an end to U.S. naval blockades, Iranian state agency Fars reported that future navigation in the Persian Gulf will be regulated by Iran in coordination with Oman.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as a mediator, confirmed the agreement, noting it includes a permanent end to military operations on all fronts. A formal signing ceremony is set for June 19 in Switzerland, to be preceded by technical discussions.

Terms and Nuclear Disarmament

White House officials stated the memorandum of understanding establishes a 60-day window for technical negotiations. The deal is built on four pillars: reopening the Strait of Hormuz, dismantling Iran’s nuclear program with the removal of enriched uranium, ensuring long-term regional peace, and implementing a verification inspection regime.

In exchange for dismantling its nuclear capabilities, Iran will receive a gradual easing of economic sanctions and reintegration into the global economy. The White House explicitly denied reports that direct cash payments would be made to Tehran upon signing the memorandum.

Regional Tensions and Diplomatic Maneuvering

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi confirmed the deal, attributing it to military pressure and stating that Iran’s final demands regarding sanctions must be included in the text. Tehran has warned that it will take action if the agreement is violated by the other side.

Recent tensions were exacerbated by Israeli strikes on the suburbs of Beirut. According to reports from the New York Times, Iran canceled a retaliatory strike on Israel following direct intervention by Donald Trump, who publicly criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s actions in Lebanon.
