Four Decades of the Łukasiewicz – Institute of Technology and Life: Driving Industrial Innovation

The Łukasiewicz – Institute of Technology and Life celebrates its 40th anniversary, marking four decades of facilitating applied research, industrial technology transfer, and economic development in Poland and abroad.

From Research Facility to Industry Partner

Established in 1986 as the Interdepartmental Scientific Center for the Exploitation of Fixed Assets, the institute initially focused on machine reliability and technical infrastructure. Over time, its expertise expanded to include material engineering, surface engineering, mechatronics, industrial automation, and digital production processes aligned with Industry 4.0 and 5.0.

Since 2019, the institute has operated within the Łukasiewicz Research Network, one of the largest R&D organizations in Europe. Today, it acts as a comprehensive competence center supporting companies from initial design and prototyping to full industrial implementation.

Economic Impact and Specialized Expertise

Over the last 40 years, the institute has become a leader in technology transfer, specializing in tribology, mechatronics, and eco-innovation. Its facility in Radom remains one of Central Europe’s most advanced centers for tribological research and high-tech infrastructure.

The institute’s work currently supports strategic national goals, including energy transformation, industrial digitalization, and the circular economy. Dr. Hubert Cichocki, President of the Łukasiewicz Centre, highlighted the institute’s role in building competitive advantages for enterprises through effective knowledge transfer.

Global Recognition and Anniversary Celebrations

The 40th-anniversary ceremony in Radom brought together government officials, including Marshal Adam Struzik and Minister Błażej Poboży, alongside leaders from the scientific and business communities. The event featured the presentation of state decorations and honors for contributions to Polish science.

The institute’s achievements are reflected in numerous international awards from innovation exhibitions in cities such as Geneva, Brussels, and Paris. Consistent recognition in national scientific evaluations underscores its standing as a trusted partner in the country’s innovation ecosystem.
