Netanyahu’s Political Future
During a media briefing, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed he will run in the upcoming parliamentary elections. Addressing concerns about his candidacy, he stated, “I want to reassure you. Yes, I intend to run and I intend to win.” The elections are scheduled to take place no later than October 27.
Views on the Iran-US Agreement
Netanyahu labeled the preliminary agreement between the United States and Iran a “historic victory” that will “last for generations.” He asserted that without decisive action from his cabinet, in cooperation with other nations and the administration of Donald Trump and US armed forces, Iran would have already possessed nuclear weapons.
The Prime Minister acknowledged that while he generally aligns with the US President, there are instances where their views differ. He emphasized that the struggle is not over and Israel must remain vigilant against regional threats.
Military Operations and Regional Security
Netanyahu stated that Israeli forces will remain in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria as long as necessary. He reported that the military has eliminated thousands of terrorists and dismantled significant infrastructure, noting that all hostages abducted by Hamas on October 7, 2023, have been released.
A US official cited by Reuters stated that the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Lebanon is not a condition of the US-Iran deal, maintaining Israel’s right to defend itself against Hezbollah. Tehran, however, insisted that the status of Hezbollah is an integral part of the agreement.
Agreement Details
The White House has not yet disclosed the full terms of the agreement, which was signed by Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance for the US, and parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf for Iran. Details are expected to be released within 48 hours.
