The Targeted Shooting
The murder occurred on Monday, June 15, shortly before 10:00 AM. According to initial findings, a 44-year-old man was shot with a firearm and died at the scene, while the perpetrator fled.
The victim has been identified as Robert Kuzowkow, a Russian opposition activist and caricaturist who performed under the pseudonym Semyon Skrepetsky and was known for his criticism of the Russian political system.
Forensic Evidence
Lublin Regional Prosecutor’s Office spokesperson Marcin Kozak stated that an assailant approached the victim on the sidewalk, fired three shots into his back, and fired two additional shots after the man fell. Preliminary examinations revealed five entry wounds and two exit wounds in the victim’s upper chest and head area. Authorities recovered 9mm shell casings and one unfired cartridge at the scene.
An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. Two Belarusian citizens, aged 33 and 37, were detained near their country’s consulate in Biała Podlaska. Their specific involvement is currently under investigation, and no formal charges have been filed against them.
Ongoing Investigation
Prosecutors are withholding further details to prevent potential suspects from evading capture. A specialized investigative team has been formed by the Lublin provincial police commander, and the case has been transferred to the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Lublin.
Investigators are not confirming whether the murder was linked to the victim’s artistic work or political views, noting that they are analyzing multiple hypotheses. Meanwhile, authorities are still searching for the gunman, who remains at large and may still be armed.
Police Appeal for Evidence
Authorities have requested that anyone who was in the vicinity of the crime, or moving along nearby streets and national road No. 2, between 8:30 AM and 10:30 AM on June 15, provide any available dashcam footage. This evidence could prove critical in identifying the suspect’s escape route or any prior preparations for the killing.
Recordings can be submitted to the Municipal Police Headquarters in Biała Podlaska. Police have emphasized that there is no immediate threat to the general public and have dismissed online reports regarding other unrelated shootings in the city.
