Government to Scrutinize Physician Salaries Following High-Earning Reports

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has announced new legislation to grant the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System (AOTMiT) the authority to collect detailed data on medical staff earnings.

Legislative oversight of medical pay

The government plans to introduce a bill providing AOTMiT with the legal tools necessary to monitor remuneration within the healthcare sector. This initiative comes as a direct response to public reports regarding a 28-year-old physician at the Southern Hospital who allegedly earned 1.6 million PLN last year.

Tusk addresses transparency concerns

Speaking before a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Tusk described the earnings of non-specialist physicians approaching two million PLN as concerning. He noted that current systemic limitations prevent the Ministry of Health and the National Health Fund (NFZ) from accessing non-anonymized data regarding individual hospital payrolls.

Rationale for systematic wage monitoring

The Prime Minister emphasized that transparent data is essential for the government to accurately value medical procedures and determine the proportional cost of physician salaries within those procedures. He argued that this oversight serves the interests of the medical community by providing a factual basis for system-wide assessments.
