CBA Detains Lublin Education Superintendent Over Corruption Allegations

The Central Anti-Corruption Bureau (CBA) detained the Lublin Education Superintendent on Tuesday, June 16, following allegations of abuse of power and illegal influence regarding public procurement for a centenary celebration.

The Investigation and Detentions

The operation, ordered by the National Prosecutor’s Office in Krakow, included searches of the Lublin Education Office and the Lublin Voivodeship Office. Authorities seized documents and electronic devices related to public contracts.

The investigation centers on the suspected manipulation of a tender for an event celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Lublin Education Office. Investigators allege the superintendent formed an illicit agreement with a specific event contractor to influence the procurement process.

Denial and Legal Status

The superintendent, identified as Szabłowski, denied the allegations after providing testimony. He was released under financial bail and placed under police supervision.

Broader Context of the Probe

Prosecutor Katarzyna Calów-Jaszewska noted that this investigation is linked to a January 14 operation where seven individuals, including Lublin Deputy Mayor Beata Stepaniuk-Kuśmierzak, were detained. Two municipal officials have since been suspended from their duties.

Official Response from the Voivodeship Office

Lublin Voivode Krzysztof Komorski confirmed that his office cooperated fully with the CBA by providing requested documentation. He emphasized the institution’s commitment to transparency, noting a recent successful audit by the Supreme Audit Office.
