Left Wing Proposes Healthcare Overhaul as Czarzasty Calls for Systemic Change

Following reports of irregularities in the public medical sector, Włodzimierz Czarzasty announced that The Left is drafting a new funding model and radical systemic reforms for Poland’s healthcare system.

The Left’s Push for Systemic Reform

On Wednesday, June 17, Włodzimierz Czarzasty stated that current healthcare issues have gone too far, arguing that minor adjustments are insufficient without a complete overhaul of the entire system. The party is currently finalizing a legislative proposal regarding new healthcare financing.

Czarzasty outlined radical proposals, including setting salary caps for physicians and banning the practice of holding concurrent positions in private and public medical facilities. He also stressed the need for full utilization of medical equipment and strict enforcement of doctor working hours, noting that these measures are not intended to attack the medical profession.

Government Audits and Administrative Scrutiny

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has ordered comprehensive audits of public healthcare institutions to address concerns over high staff salaries, multiple employment contracts, and a lack of transparency. The Prime Minister emphasized the need for legal consequences where public funds have been misused.

These actions follow reports of alleged preferential treatment for political figures at the Warsaw Southern Hospital, prompting an immediate audit by Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski. Additionally, the government is investigating excessive earnings in the sector, citing the case of a local councilor and physician whose annual income reached approximately 1.6 million PLN.
