Polish authorities have detained a man carrying a Georgian passport in connection with the fatal shooting of 44-year-old Robert K. in Biała Podlaska, as investigators continue the hunt for the mastermind.
The Investigation and Arrest
On Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the apprehension of a suspect in the murder of 44-year-old Robert K. The arrest was executed by Lublin police and the Internal Security Agency (ABW). The suspect, who utilizes a Georgian passport, is currently being investigated to identify potential accomplices or those who ordered the hit.
According to Radio ZET, initial efforts to track down burned or abandoned getaway vehicles were unsuccessful. However, investigators successfully secured surveillance footage, which allowed them to identify the license plates of the vehicle used during the attack, ultimately leading to the detainee.
Details of the Attack
Witnesses reported that the vehicle used in the attack moved slowly along the local park, waiting for the shooter to return. Current intelligence suggests the detained man may have served as the driver rather than the executioner. Previously, two Belarusian nationals were detained in connection to the case but were subsequently released due to a lack of evidence.
Political Context and Execution
The victim, an artist known as Simon Skrepecki, was an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin and the Russian government. On the morning of June 12, the victim was approached by an assailant who fired two shots with a handgun. After the victim fell, the attacker approached and fired three additional shots at close range.
Forensic examination of the body revealed a total of seven gunshot wounds, including five entry and two exit wounds located in the head, chest, and back. Prime Minister Tusk confirmed that while all signs point to a political assassination, the investigation remains ongoing. The victim had reportedly turned down previous offers of police protection.
