Moscow Criticizes Trump’s G7 Stance: “Fed With Unhealthy Ideas”

Following the G7 summit in Evian-les-Bains, Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov accused the US administration of feeding Donald Trump harmful ideas regarding Ukraine, as tensions between Moscow and the West intensify.

Kremlin criticism of Trump

Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov criticized Donald Trump’s pro-Ukrainian stance on Thursday, June 18. Ushakov told the Russian news outlet Vesti that the Ukraine issue was actively discussed at the G7, alleging that Trump was fed “unhealthy, if not harmful, ideas.”

Ushakov added that there has been no official contact between Russia and the Trump administration since the conclusion of the G7 summit, which brought together leaders of the world’s seven most developed economies.

G7 agenda and the conflict in Ukraine

The G7 summit took place from June 15-17 in the resort town of Evian-les-Bains. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the event, as he did in 2023 and 2024. The summit focused primarily on ending the conflict between the US and Israel against Iran, as well as pressuring Russia to sign a peace deal with Ukraine through intensified sanctions.

Macron on shifting US perspectives

French President Emmanuel Macron highlighted “profound changes” in the American approach to Ukraine. He noted that President Trump, like other leaders, concluded that Moscow currently lacks a serious willingness to engage in peace negotiations.

Shifting dynamics and frontline reports

Trump’s position during the G7 marked a departure from his stance earlier in the year, when he had implemented temporary sanctions relief on Russian oil exports during the Iran conflict. That move had previously helped the Kremlin boost energy revenues amid chaos in global markets caused by the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Bilateral talks with Zelensky

On the sidelines of the summit, President Trump held talks with Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian leader briefed Trump on the situation at the front, which reportedly received a positive response from the US president. Zelensky stated that Trump reacted favorably to requests for increased anti-aircraft missile supplies to Kyiv.
