The allowance for childcare during parental leave is not a new benefit, but it remains relatively obscure. It serves as a supplement to the family allowance and is strictly conditional upon several criteria, including the requirement that the parent is not receiving a parental benefit.

This is not an independent payment. It is issued to a parent on parental leave who also qualifies for the family allowance. Eligible low-income individuals can receive 400 PLN per month, provided their household income does not exceed 674 PLN per person.

Eligibility and Income Thresholds

Parental leave is inherently unpaid, unlike maternity or parental leave. However, those providing personal care to a child may apply for this 400 PLN monthly supplement, which is intended to support households where a parent has suspended professional activity.

The benefit is not universal. The current net income threshold per family member is capped at 674 PLN, or 764 PLN for those caring for a child with a disability. The 400 PLN amount is fixed, regardless of the number of children or whether one or both parents are on leave.

Duration and Grounds for Disqualification

The duration of the benefit is tied to the family’s situation and the health of the child. It automatically terminates upon the expiration of the parental leave period.

Disqualification occurs if the recipient fails to meet defined criteria or if the parent becomes entitled to a maternity allowance due to the birth of another child. Several other circumstances may also trigger the loss of rights to this support.
