The Płock Regional Court concluded hearings on June 20 regarding the claim for damages and compensation filed by Igor M. for his wrongful arrest. The proceedings, which began on June 15, were held under extraordinary security measures and behind closed doors.

The hearings took place in a secure, monitored facility adjacent to the Płock Prison. These measures were implemented because Igor M. serves as a crown witness in other ongoing legal matters. Following the final session on June 18, the court finalized the evidence phase.
Verdict Schedule
Iwona Wiśniewska-Bartoszewska, spokesperson for the Płock Regional Court, confirmed that the verdict will be announced on June 26. While the court’s decision will be public, the justification for the ruling will remain confidential.
Context of the Papała Case
In November 2023, the Warsaw Court of Appeal definitively acquitted Igor M. of murdering former Police Chief Marek Papała, who was shot in 1998. Igor M. had been held in pre-trial detention between 2012 and 2015 after being accused alongside six other individuals, all of whom were later cleared of the charges.
Financial Claims and Legal Path
According to sources close to the case, Igor M. is seeking over 5.2 million PLN in compensation from the State Treasury. The case was transferred to the Płock court in February 2025 by order of the Warsaw Court of Appeal, in accordance with civil procedure regulations governing liability claims.
