Siblings Held Captive for 16 Years in Podlaskie Village

Prosecutors in Suwałki have charged a mother and daughter with keeping twin siblings in isolation and neglect for over 16 years, resulting in severe health complications for the victims.

Criminal Charges Filed

The Suwałki District Prosecutor’s Office has charged a 70-year-old mother and her 50-year-old daughter for their role in the long-term isolation of 47-year-old twins. The accused women face up to eight years in prison for their actions.

Systemic Neglect and Isolation

Investigators determined that the twins were subjected to chronic neglect, suffering from poor hygiene, malnutrition, and a lack of medical care. Wojciech Piktel, spokesperson for the Suwałki Regional Prosecutor’s Office, noted that the victims exhibited severe physiological decline.

Ongoing Investigation

While the initial findings cite a 16-year duration of confinement, authorities are investigating the possibility that the siblings may have been isolated from society for as long as 30 years. The victims are currently receiving treatment in a psychiatric hospital.
