Apartment Fire in Pruszków Caused by Intoxicated Resident

A 40-year-old man was detained following a fire at a Pruszków apartment building on June 18, which required paramedics to rescue an elderly neighbor and prompted a large-scale emergency response.

The Rescue Operation

On June 18, a fire broke out at 28 Wesoła Street in Pruszków. Emergency services were initially alerted at 1:46 PM regarding a man in a mental health crisis, but reports of smoke coming from a first-floor unit followed shortly after.

Four residents self-evacuated before help arrived. Paramedics, alerted to the presence of an elderly woman with limited mobility trapped inside, entered the building to lead her to safety. While the woman and the rescuers suffered from minor smoke inhalation, no hospitalizations were required.

Firefighting and Damage

Six fire brigade units, including a ladder truck, responded to the scene to extinguish the blaze. The fire destroyed the unit occupied by the 40-year-old suspect and caused damage to the elderly woman’s apartment. The operation concluded at 4:07 PM.

Police Investigation and Suspect Background

Police reports indicate the fire was started by the 40-year-old tenant, who had approximately 1.0 promille of alcohol in his system. He remains in custody and will face further questioning once sober.

Neighbors claim this is not the man’s first dangerous incident. They describe a history of alcohol-fueled behavior, self-destructive tendencies, and previous false alarms or fire-related disturbances linked to the same individual, which they allege have persisted despite repeated police and municipal guard interventions.
