Legislative Debate and Medical Earnings
On Friday, June 19, parliamentarians began voting on a government bill aimed at enabling the collection of data on medical professionals’ earnings, linked to their PESEL numbers or professional license IDs. The debate intensified following reports from Kanał Zero regarding Dawid Kacprzyk, a doctor and Civic Coalition councilor who reportedly earned 1.6 million zlotys in 2025 while employed at, among other places, the Warsaw Southern Hospital.
Allegations of Preferential Treatment
According to Zero.pl, an unofficial, expedited admission path operated at the Warsaw Southern Hospital for Civic Coalition politicians and their family members. On Monday, June 15, Kacprzyk resigned from the party, and on Thursday, June 18, he surrendered his mandate as a councilor. On the same day, the city council announced that the doctor had returned half a million zlotys to the hospital.
Sejm Confrontations
During the debate, Roman Giertych accused the Law and Justice party of misusing the Justice Fund for hospital investments. The speech sparked immediate reactions from the opposition, with Przemysław Czarnek demanding the return of funds and heckling Giertych. Giertych countered by questioning past government actions regarding medical equipment, leading to further shouting matches between factions.
Calls for Accountability and “VIP” Scandals
Adrian Zandberg of the Razem party challenged Prime Minister Donald Tusk over the lack of consequences for Marcin Kierwiński, suggesting that the “Kierwiński octopus” operates within Warsaw’s city institutions. Zandberg criticized the oversight mechanisms in place at the Warsaw Southern Hospital, arguing that the facility was managed primarily for the benefit of party affiliates.
Demands for Transparency
Janusz Kowalski questioned the whereabouts of top government officials, characterizing the situation as one of the largest scandals since 1989. He accused the ruling party of prioritizing their own activists over public medical needs and demanded a full disclosure of the “VIP list,” challenging members to account for their use of the alleged private facilities.
