Armed Robbery at Łódź Currency Exchange

A suspect threatened a 32-year-old employee with an object resembling a firearm at a currency exchange on Piotrkowska Street in Łódź on Friday, June 19, escaping with over 200,000 PLN.

Police received a report of an armed robbery at a currency exchange on Piotrkowska Street shortly after 8:00 a.m. on Friday, June 19. A 32-year-old employee was present in the office at the time of the robbery.

According to Sub-inspector Kamila Sowińska of the Łódź Municipal Police, the assailant threatened the employee with an object resembling a weapon and demanded cash. Once the employee complied, the perpetrator fled the scene. While the specific nature of the object remains unconfirmed, it has been secured for investigation.

Ongoing Investigation and Suspect Description

Prosecutor Paweł Jasiak of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Łódź confirmed that the suspect is a Black male and that he escaped with over 200,000 PLN in various currencies. Law enforcement is currently working to identify the assailant, with the investigation overseen by the Łódź-Śródmieście District Prosecutor’s Office.

Historical Context of Similar Crimes

A similar robbery occurred on December 8, 2021, in the Łódź-Górna district. A masked 54-year-old man attempted to rob an exchange by firing at a bulletproof glass partition after blocking the door. The employee triggered an alarm, and the assailant failed to breach the inner security door.

The perpetrator fled but was apprehended the following day alongside a 43-year-old accomplice. Both suspects were charged with armed robbery, a crime carrying a potential sentence of up to 15 years. The younger suspect faced charges under conditions of multirecidivism, and both were subsequently detained for three months by court order.
