Severe Storms and Heatwave Warnings Across Poland

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued level two storm alerts for ten provinces this Saturday, while heatwave warnings remain in effect across fifteen regions of the country.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management issued level two storm alerts for ten provinces: West Pomeranian, Pomeranian, Lubusz, Greater Poland, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Łódź, Lower Silesian, Opole, Silesian, and Lesser Poland. Forecasters expect heavy rainfall between 30 mm and 55 mm, along with wind gusts ranging from 75 to 115 km/h and possible hail.

These level two warnings take effect Saturday at 2:00 PM. Most alerts will expire overnight into Sunday, though certain districts will remain under observation until 10:00 AM on Sunday.

Heatwave Conditions

Level one and two heatwave warnings remain active until 8:00 PM on Sunday for all provinces except Podlaskie. Daytime temperatures in the affected areas are expected to reach between 30 and 35 degrees Celsius, with nighttime temperatures staying near 20 degrees Celsius.

Government Safety Warnings

The Government Security Centre has issued a nationwide alert regarding the risk of intense rain, strong winds, and storms. Officials warned that power outages are possible and advised citizens to avoid open spaces.

Emergency Services Response

Firefighters in the Greater Poland region responded to over 470 incidents by 8:00 AM Saturday, primarily involving downed trees and broken branches, with fewer reports of flooded buildings. The highest number of interventions occurred in the Kościan, Nowy Tomyśl, Leszno, and Poznań districts.

One teenager in Leszno suffered an open leg fracture after a tree fell on them on Grunwaldzka Street. In the Kościan district, a tree fell onto a moving vehicle, but the female driver was unharmed.
