No Invitation for Nawrocki: The Gdańsk Conference Dispute

President Karol Nawrocki will not attend the 2026 Ukraine Recovery Conference in Gdańsk, as government officials confirm that no invitation was extended to the head of state or his staff.

The Dispute Over Attendance

Marcin Przydacz, head of the Presidential International Policy Bureau, announced that President Karol Nawrocki did not receive an invitation to the upcoming Ukraine Recovery Conference. He stated that invitations were issued jointly by Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

Przydacz noted that the President does not intend to attend an event for which he was not invited by the Prime Minister. Consequently, no officials under the President’s office will attend either.

Government and Ukrainian Stances

Government spokesperson Adam Szłapka explained that the lack of an invitation resulted from the nature of the event’s format. He further claimed that the Presidential Palace showed no prior interest in participating in the conference.

Dmytro Lytvyn, communications advisor to the Ukrainian President, stated that it is not appropriate for Ukraine to invite the Polish President to an event held in a Polish city, characterizing the issue as an internal Polish matter.

Conference Details and Tensions

The Ukraine Recovery Conference (URC 2026) is scheduled for June 25–26, 2026, in Gdańsk. The event aims to strengthen international support for Ukraine’s recovery and stimulate economic investment, following the previous edition held in Rome.

The situation unfolds against the backdrop of friction regarding the Order of the White Eagle, recently revoked from President Volodymyr Zelenskyy by President Karol Nawrocki. This decision followed the Ukrainian leader’s move to name a military unit after UPA heroes.
