The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management has issued a warning as a severe heatwave approaches, with temperatures expected to climb steadily throughout the week to reach peak levels of 41 degrees Celsius by Monday.

Current Meteorological Situation
According to the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW), low-pressure systems are currently influencing northeastern Europe, southeastern Europe, and the northeastern Atlantic, while high-pressure systems dominate other areas. Poland remains under the influence of a weak high-pressure system centered over the North Sea, with only the southeastern fringes affected by a low-pressure trough and a cold front. Very warm polar maritime air will flow in from the west.
Weather Forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday
On Tuesday, June 23, skies will be mostly clear with moderate cloud cover, increasing temporarily in the southeast. Showers or thunderstorms are expected in the Bieszczady mountains, the Lublin region, and the Tatra mountains. Maximum temperatures will range from 18 degrees Celsius at the coast to 28 degrees in the Zamość region, with light winds expected.
Wednesday will see sunny skies with temperatures ranging from 22 degrees at the coast to 31 degrees in the west. Winds will remain light, becoming moderate at the seaside.
Heatwave Progression
Temperatures will begin to rise before the weekend. On Thursday and Friday, thermometers will show over 30 degrees Celsius across most of the country, though it will remain cooler in Pomerania and the east. By Saturday, many areas will reach 33 degrees, with the west seeing highs of 38 degrees.
A further spike is forecast for Sunday, June 28, with most regions recording between 35 and 40 degrees Celsius. According to IMGW, similar conditions will persist on Monday, June 29, with temperatures reaching 40 to 41 degrees Celsius in the Lubusz, Greater Poland, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, and northern Lower Silesian provinces. Elsewhere, temperatures will not fall below 30 degrees.
Warnings and Alerts
In response, the IMGW is preparing a second-degree heat alert, which may cover the West Pomeranian and Lubusz provinces from June 26 to June 27.
