Tusk Refuses to Fuel Tensions with Ukraine

Prime Minister Donald Tusk declared he will not contribute to escalating Polish-Ukrainian friction, emphasizing that long-term strategic interests must outweigh historical trauma and the current political discord between both nations.

A Stance Against Rising Hostility

Prime Minister Tusk acknowledged that while Poland’s initial decision to host over a million Ukrainian refugees was bound to cause disappointment and conflict, he remains committed to building future-oriented relations. He warned that politicians on both sides of the border are currently focused on fueling anti-Polish and anti-Ukrainian sentiments for perceived political gain.

Stressing that he is uninterested in short-term popularity, Tusk emphasized that Poland’s long-term security depends on cooperation rather than dwelling on past traumas. He described recent events, including disputes over the naming of UPA and the revocation of state orders, as detrimental to the security interests of both countries.

Reconstruction Efforts in Gdańsk

Tusk confirmed that the Ukraine Reconstruction Conference in Gdańsk will proceed as scheduled this Thursday and Friday, regardless of political interference in Warsaw or Kyiv. The conference aims to finalize 200 agreements, focusing on post-war recovery projects that involve significant international funding and opportunities for Polish companies.

While reports suggest President Volodymyr Zelensky will not attend, with Deputy Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko representing Ukraine, Tusk insisted that the work remains vital. He reiterated that his government will fulfill its commitment to the agreements regardless of who represents the Ukrainian delegation.

Reform of the Healthcare System

Addressing reports of administrative irregularities, such as physicians working excessive shifts and patients bypassing waiting lists, the Prime Minister announced a crackdown on hospital practices. He cited cases of doctors working nearly 17 hours a day and instances of political figures receiving medical services outside of standard queues.

The Prime Minister has requested that the Ministers of Justice and Health prepare comprehensive legislative recommendations to repair the system. He signaled that a serious conversation with the National Health Fund (NFZ) leadership is imminent to ensure accountability, regulatory compliance, and the application of common sense in public healthcare management.
