New Krakow Mayoral Poll Highlights Potential Contenders

Following the referendum removal of Aleksander Miszalski, a recent IBRiS poll reveals voter preferences for the upcoming mayoral election, with Łukasz Gibała leading the field amid uncertainty regarding the official date.

Election Timeline Uncertainty

Krakow voters removed Aleksander Miszalski (KO) from the mayoral office in a May 24 referendum. While the electoral code mandates elections within 90 days, the government has yet to finalize a date.

Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted on June 9 that the schedule may shift due to legal protests concerning the referendum, suggesting a date in the second half of September, though no formal decision has been made.

Public Preference Poll

An IBRiS poll conducted between June 10 and 14 shows Łukasz Gibała leading with 17.2 percent of support, followed by Daria Gosek-Popiołek (13.5 percent), Michał Drewnicki (13.2 percent), and Monika Piątkowska (12 percent).

Other candidates polled lower, including Bartosz Bocheńczak (5.9 percent), Michał Klimek (5 percent), and Aleksandra Owca (3.8 percent). A significant portion of respondents, 20.6 percent, remain undecided, while 3.9 percent refused to answer.

Survey Methodology

The survey was commissioned by the New Left and conducted among 1,000 adult residents of Krakow using a mix-mode approach of CAWI and CATI interviews. The study carries a 3 percent margin of error at a 0.95 confidence level.
