Trzaskowski Refers Southern Hospital Scandal to Prosecutors Following Grave Allegations

Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski has requested a formal investigation after a former department head alleged that medical negligence and falsified documentation led to patient deaths at the Southern Hospital.

The controversy surrounding Dr. Dawid Kacprzyk and the Southern Hospital in Warsaw has entered a critical phase. Following a high-profile interview on Kanał Zero by former surgery department head Dr. Emil Jędrzejewski, Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski announced he is referring the case to the prosecutor’s office.

Dr. Jędrzejewski publicly accused Dr. Kacprzyk of medical errors that allegedly resulted in patient complications and death. He also claimed that medical documentation was systematically falsified to conceal these incidents, asserting that patients were treated as “phantoms” whose records were adjusted after adverse outcomes.

Official Response and Legal Inquiries

Mayor Trzaskowski confirmed he would petition the Prosecutor General for an urgent inquiry. The move signals that the investigation has moved beyond previous hospital audits and existing probes into the facility’s operations.

Minister of Justice and Prosecutor General Waldemar Żurek confirmed that his office is already coordinating actions, including a comprehensive review of all past death reports from the Southern Hospital. The investigation remains sensitive, with both hospital administration and medical regulatory bodies actively scrutinizing Dr. Kacprzyk’s employment and conduct.

Background of the Southern Hospital Controversy

The scandal originally surfaced following reports of Dr. Kacprzyk’s exceptionally high earnings, which reached approximately 1.6 million PLN for nearly 4,000 hours of work in 2025. Subsequent allegations surfaced regarding a “VIP lounge” for political figures and claims of preferential treatment for specific patients.

Following the emergence of these allegations, Dr. Kacprzyk resigned his position within the Civic Coalition (KO), surrendered his mandate as a councilor in Ursus, and had his hospital contracts terminated. Dr. Jędrzejewski, meanwhile, continues to present himself as a whistleblower, though his own professional history and the absence of submitted formal documentation remain subjects of public scrutiny.
