10 M1 Metro Stations Closed After Intruder Enters Tunnel

Warsaw’s M1 metro line suspended service across ten stations on Wednesday morning after security systems detected an intruder in the tunnel, forcing police intervention and a comprehensive safety sweep.

Security Breach and Police Intervention

Warsaw Public Transport announced service disruptions on the M1 metro line early Wednesday morning. Metro Warsaw spokesperson Anna Bartoń confirmed that alarm systems detected an unauthorized person, who was subsequently apprehended by police at Służew station and escorted from the premises.

Police are currently investigating the incident. Metro Warsaw is conducting a safety assessment to determine when passenger service can safely resume. These measures include a sweep by police and a tracking dog to ensure no hazardous items or packages remain in the tunnels.

Suspect Identity and Transit Alternatives

Staff Sergeant Marta Haberska of the Ursynów police stated that the detained man is not a Polish citizen. He lacks identification documents and communicates in English and French, with authorities currently working to establish his identity.

Due to the service shutdown, emergency bus line ZM1 and tram line ZM2 have been deployed to cover the affected route. The ZM1 bus runs between Metro Politechnika and Os. Kabaty, while the ZM2 tram operates between Metro Wilanowska and Pl. Narutowicza. Officials have not yet provided an estimated time for the restoration of full service.
