Southern Hospital Surgery Chief Rejects Allegations of Fatal Malpractice

Piotr Szenk, the current head of surgery at Warsaw’s Southern Hospital, has publicly denounced claims made by his predecessor, Emil Jędrzejewski, regarding alleged medical negligence and falsified records at the facility.

Disputed claims of medical negligence

The controversy stems from recent allegations made by Emil Jędrzejewski, a former surgery chief, who claimed that procedures at the hospital’s emergency ward were performed incorrectly, leading to severe complications and patient deaths. Jędrzejewski alleged that patients were sometimes left without proper care for hours and that staff falsified documentation to cover up mistakes, including incidents involving failed intubations.

Denial of systemic malpractice

Piotr Szenk, who succeeded Jędrzejewski in late 2025, has expressed shock and indignation at these assertions. Szenk stated that his assistants and medical staff report that the emergency department has functioned correctly and that they have observed no such malpractice. He emphasized that the current head of the emergency department, Adam Macech, is a qualified specialist and that the team is not comprised of individuals acting with criminal negligence.

Unverified reports and investigative response

Szenk noted that he has not personally witnessed or heard credible reports of patients dying due to faulty intubations or the performance of CT scans on deceased patients for concealment purposes. While he stated he could theoretically imagine a post-mortem scan being used to determine a cause of death, he stressed he has no knowledge of such events at the hospital. Meanwhile, Justice Minister Waldemar Żurek has announced that Jędrzejewski is to be questioned as part of a comprehensive investigation into the reported incidents.
