Radosław Sikorski confirmed on Wednesday, June 24, that a 24-year-old Polish woman detained in Libya has been released following weeks of diplomatic intervention by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Diplomatic Efforts Secure Release
Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski announced the woman’s release, crediting the result to weeks of intensive work by his ministry’s team. He expressed gratitude to allies, EU partners, and Libyan institutions for their cooperation.
Sikorski cautioned that Libya remains a high-risk country and urged Polish citizens to strictly adhere to official Ministry of Foreign Affairs travel warnings.
Humanitarian Mission Detention
The 24-year-old, Laura Kwoczała-Alsubaih, was participating in the Global Sumud Land Convoy, an initiative protesting the blockade of the Gaza Strip and advocating for the delivery of humanitarian aid. The group joined the convoy within Libyan territory on May 7.
Rafał Piotrowski, spokesperson for the Polish section of the Global Sumud Flotilla, reported that forces associated with the unrecognized government in eastern Libya detained the activists on May 17, holding them in local police barracks.
Release of the Global Convoy Activists
Following her release, a video statement from Kwoczała-Alsubaih was posted on Facebook, in which she expressed gratitude for the efforts leading to her freedom while reiterating her commitment to the cause of Palestinian independence.
On June 23, the Global Sumud Flotilla confirmed that all 10 activists detained in Libya were to be released. In a statement on X, the group acknowledged the release while calling attention to the thousands of other political prisoners and detainees currently held globally.
