Ministry Orders Inspections
The Ministry of Health has directed the Mazovian Voivode and the national consultant in emergency medicine to conduct inspections at the Southern Hospital and the Bródnowski Hospital in Warsaw. The audits specifically examine procedures surrounding patient deaths that occurred within the emergency departments.
Consultant Defends Emergency Standards
National consultant in emergency medicine, Prof. Jerzy Robert Ładny, stated that deaths raising concerns are always subjected to detailed analysis. He asserted that Polish emergency departments comply with all legal requirements and maintain the lowest, steadily declining mortality rates within the healthcare system.
Prof. Ładny emphasized that media reports regarding irregularities negatively impact patient perception of safety, underscoring the necessity of relying on proven facts and concrete evidence during investigations.
Scope of the Audit
Inspectors are tasked with reviewing medical procedures, documentation, imaging diagnostics, and patient length-of-stay data. The verification covers the period from July 1, 2025, to May 31, 2026, with results expected to be released as soon as possible.
Legal and Administrative Actions
Two investigations were launched on Monday concerning the Southern Hospital, focusing on alleged fraud exceeding 500,000 PLN and the abuse of power by a public official, specifically regarding triage violations. The Supreme Medical Chamber is conducting its own proceedings, and the Personal Data Protection Office has also announced an audit.
In response to the situation, the Mayor of Warsaw dismissed the hospital’s management board and supervisory council, appointing Aneta Gomółka-Siembora as the new president of the board.
Public Sentiment on Accountability
A recent SW Research poll commissioned by Onet reveals that 59 percent of respondents support ministerial-level resignations following the scandal at the Southern Hospital. Only 15 percent of participants expressed a contrary view, while 26 percent remained undecided.
The poll was conducted on June 24, 2026, using an online survey methodology (CAWI) among a representative group of 810 adults across Poland.
