Prosecutors have formally closed an investigation into claims made by Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia regarding alleged pressure to block the presidential inauguration, finding no evidence of any criminal activity.

Investigation into alleged coercion closed

Following an interrogation of Sejm Speaker Szymon Hołownia, prosecutors determined that no proposals, suggestions, or pressure were ever placed upon him to block the swearing-in of Karol Nawrocki. The investigation was discontinued due to the absence of any criminal offense.

Origins of the coup allegations

In July, Hołownia stated on Polsat News that he had been repeatedly urged to delay the presidential inauguration, an act he characterized as a potential “coup d’état.” He attributed these suggestions to individuals who were dissatisfied with the outcome of the presidential election.

Coalition leaders exonerated

Hołownia clarified in his testimony that these suggestions did not originate from politicians within the October 15 coalition. He emphasized that all coalition leaders, including the Prime Minister, were firmly opposed to any unconstitutional scenarios.

Legal assessment of media discourse

The prosecutor’s office concluded that public discourse suggesting the Sejm Speaker could become acting president after Andrzej Duda’s term cannot be considered incitement to a crime or preparation for the violent removal of a constitutional authority.
