Fatal Plane Crash at Bemowo Automobilklub: Investigation Underway

The Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office has launched an investigation into the June 25, 2026, air crash at the Automobilklub grounds that claimed the lives of a pilot and a training participant.

Prosecution Opens Investigation

On June 29, 2026, the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office initiated a formal investigation into the violation of air traffic safety regulations. The incident occurred on June 25, 2026, at 127 Powstańców Śląskich Street, resulting in two fatalities and one person sustaining fractures to both lower limbs.

Forensic and Investigative Procedures

Authorities have conducted an on-site inspection and examined the bodies, which were found in a charred state, making identification difficult beyond gender. Autopsies are currently being planned, and eyewitnesses have already been interviewed.

Sequence of the Crash

A Cirrus SR22 aircraft, which departed from Wrocław-Strachowice, was observed circling the airfield without reporting any technical failures. Witnesses described the plane maneuvering over the grounds before striking the surface near a shed, triggering a significant explosion.

Casualties Among Training Participants

The site was hosting a training session for operating emergency vehicles. The victims include the pilot and a young course participant, identified as a likely soldier. Another course participant was injured and transported to a hospital.

Emergency Response

On-site individuals attempted to suppress the blaze with fire extinguishers before emergency services, police, and representatives from the State Commission on Aircraft Accident Investigation arrived at the scene.
