Investigators Analyze Video Evidence in Fatal Crash of MP Łukasz Litewka

On April 23, 36-year-old Left-wing MP Łukasz Litewka was fatally struck by a car while cycling on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza, prompting an ongoing investigation into the collision.

Fatal Incident and Legal Charges

The accident occurred on the road between Dąbrowa Górnicza and Sosnowiec. The 36-year-old MP was hit by a 57-year-old driver operating a Mitsubishi Colt. The driver has been charged with causing a fatal traffic accident, an offense carrying a potential prison sentence of six months to eight years.

Prosecutors allege the driver unintentionally violated traffic regulations, resulting in the death of the lawmaker. Investigations into the precise circumstances are currently underway.

Expert Reconstruction Pending

The Sosnowiec District Prosecutor’s Office is awaiting a critical expert reconstruction of the accident, expected in September. This analysis will evaluate road surface conditions, traffic signage, and existing road organization at the site.

Prosecutor Bartosz Kilian confirmed that investigators have documented the scene with photography and video material. Experts will specifically assess how the road’s technical state and traffic management factored into the crash.

Planned Infrastructure Upgrades

The local government of Dąbrowa Górnicza is preparing to renovate the damaged section of Kazimierzowska Street, which connects the Strzemieszyce district to the Kazimierz Górniczy area of Sosnowiec. The current road suffers from significant deterioration, requiring speed restrictions and narrowed lanes.

The renovation project, estimated to cost between 7.7 million and 11.6 million PLN, includes resurfacing the road and constructing a dedicated pedestrian-cycling path. Work is expected to span eight months following the signing of a contract.
