Hitchhiking Fugitive Arrested After Catching Ride With Off-Duty Police

A 49-year-old man wanted by the Otwock District Court was apprehended on Friday morning after unknowingly flagging down an off-duty police officer’s car while attempting to hitchhike.

Otwock police confirmed on Wednesday that officers had spent several days tracking the 49-year-old man, who had been actively evading law enforcement. The situation changed on Friday morning when officers, while commuting to their shift in a private vehicle, spotted the man energetically signaling for a ride.

A Trap in Disguise

Recognizing the wanted man, the officers pulled over and offered him a ride. The unsuspecting fugitive happily entered the vehicle and provided his destination, unaware that his journey would lead directly to the local police station rather than his intended stop.

Arrest and Immediate Resolution

Upon arriving at the Otwock police station, checks confirmed the man was subject to a court-ordered 359-day jail sentence at the Warszawa-Grochów detention center. However, he avoided imprisonment by paying a fine of nearly 7,200 zlotys into the District Court’s account, resulting in his release after procedural formalities.
