Southern Hospital Morgue Coordinator Dismissed Following Misconduct Allegations

Warsaw’s Southern Hospital has terminated the contract of its morgue coordinator, citing grave violations of professional duties, including failure to respect the deceased and compromising the institution’s reputation.

Grounds for Termination

The hospital administration stated that the dismissal was based on serious breaches of professional obligations, particularly the duty to uphold the dignity of the deceased and the families’ grief. Management emphasized that any attempt to commercialize death or failure to maintain the highest standards of conduct is strictly unacceptable.

Prosecutorial Findings on Allegations

Hospital officials referenced statements from the Warsaw District Prosecutor’s Office, which investigated claims of “corpse trading” and mandatory funeral home referrals. The investigation found no evidence to support these specific allegations. Additional probes regarding wiretapping in the morgue and the publication of autopsy photos were either discontinued or resulted in a refusal to initiate proceedings, as authorities determined the latter intended to serve educational purposes.

Administrative Overhaul and Controversy

The firing follows reports by the portal Zero.pl regarding alleged irregularities, including the promotion of a private funeral business and the unauthorized use of the morgue as a film set. This action follows the appointment of a new hospital board on June 18, enacted by Warsaw Mayor Rafał Trzaskowski after previous leadership faced allegations of corruption and preferential medical treatment for politicians.
