Russian Missile and Drone Barrage Kills Ten in Ukraine

Russia launched a widespread aerial attack on Ukraine overnight, killing at least ten people, injuring 60, and trapping civilians under the rubble of residential buildings across the country.

Overnight Aerial Assault

Russia conducted a massive overnight attack on Ukraine using ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones. Air raid alerts were triggered across almost the entire country, with Kyiv identified as one of the primary targets.

The attack, which lasted until the early morning, resulted in at least ten deaths and 60 injuries. According to Tymur Tkachenko, head of the city’s military administration, the figures are not final as rescue operations continue at the sites of the strikes.

Destruction of Residential Areas

Multiple buildings, including residential properties, were damaged or destroyed in the barrage. Rescue teams are currently working to locate survivors trapped under the rubble of homes where residents were sleeping.

Polish and Allied Military Response

In response to the Russian long-range aviation activity targeting Ukraine, the Polish Operational Command of the Armed Forces initiated preemptive defensive procedures. Polish fighter jets were scrambled, and ground-based air defense and radar reconnaissance systems were placed on high alert.

The operation was supported by French Air Force fighters and Dutch air defense systems. The Polish Operational Command confirmed that no violations of Polish airspace were recorded during the maneuvers.

Zelenskyy’s Warnings and Defense Requests

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously warned of an impending massive attack following the U.S. Independence Day and ahead of the NATO summit in Ankara. He renewed his calls for Western partners to bolster Ukraine’s air defense capabilities, specifically requesting more Patriot missile systems.
